The Identity Project Fellowship: Research-practice training opportunity for students applying to Ed.M or Ph.D. programs at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2021-2022

December 3, 2021

The Identity Project (IP) Fellowship is a year-long research-practice internship for students to engage in graduate coursework and applied research focused on race-based equity. This fellowship provides hands-on training and coursework in adolescents’ ethnic-racial identity development, culturally sustaining pedagogy, implementation of a school-based intervention, and research methods. IP Fellows become integral members of an ongoing research-practice project funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, working and learning with a large research team. This includes a field experience in which IP Fellows work closely with an educator implementing the IP curriculum (i.e., an evidence-based curriculum focused on high school students’ ethnic-racial identity development). Students applying to the Ed.M or PhD programs of the Harvard Graduate School of Education are eligible to apply. IP Fellows receive a stipend that does not affect financial aid eligibility.

Update (March 2024): During the academic year of 2022-2023 we recruited approximately 30 Identity Project Fellows, comprised of Harvard Graduate School of Education Masters and PhD students. We partnered with several school districts to successfully implement the Identity Project curriculum. At this current time we are not accepting applicants though if we plan to recruit a new cohort of fellows we will share more information here.
