Michael R. Sladek

Michael R. SladekDr. Michael Sladek is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Secondary Lecturer on Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Dr. Sladek’s program of research examines cultural contexts of adolescent identity, stress, and health, with an emphasis on strengths-based, identity-affirming approaches to support adolescents facing marginalization. He draws from multiple methodologies in his research, including quantitative longitudinal surveys, daily diaries, health assessments (e.g., sleep, salivary biomarkers), interviews and focus groups, and community-based participatory research. Along with substantive expertise in culturally informed models of adolescent development and stress-health research, Dr. Sladek has analytic expertise in nested data designs (e.g., latent growth curve models, multilevel models), experimental designs, psychometrics, and qualitative and mixed methods analysis. He received his B.A. with Honors in Psychology from Northwestern University and M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology with a Developmental concentration from Arizona State University. ... Broadly, her research seeks to integrate the literatures on context-embedded adolescent development, identity processes, and academic adjustment to understand the factors that inform ethnic-racial minority adolescents’ development in and out of schools.
