Shandra is an advanced Ph.D. Candidate concentrating in Human Development, Learning & Teaching at HGSE. Born and raised in Prichard, Alabama by her mother and “first-generation everything” (FGLI) in her college experiences, Shandra is proud to have graduated from Stanford University with her B.A. in Political Science and from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with her MBA. At Harvard, her research boldly takes an assets-based approach to exploring how culturally related psychological resources (i.e., ethnic-racial identity) support post-secondary success in the face of structural and systemic barriers, especially for minoritized youth. She has over 15 years of college administration experience spanning several dimensions of student success in undergraduate and graduate education. Her research and administrative expertise converge through her incorporation of student developmental insights into curriculum and intervention development, organizational cultural change management in college, and technology development efforts. Ultimately, her goal is to close the racialized college success gap by understanding how colleges/universities and secondary educational institutions can support marginalized students. Away from her laptop, Shandra is a wife, mother of 3 adolescents, yogi/runner/water-baby, learner of Spanish and polisher of French language skills, curious creative writer, and cocktail and heritage foods enthusiast.
